When any public water system in Texas reaches 85% of its capacity, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) requires that the water system implement a plan to improve system capacity. Onalaska Water & Gas Supply reached that 85% capacity in late 2005.

The water company hired a water supply engineering firm to asses the water system and create plans for expansion. The water company applied for and received approval for a $2,500,000 low interest loan from Rural Development to fund the expansion of your water system. Construction, which includes a new elevated water tower and three new wells, is tentatively set to start at the end of 2008.

The well at Idlewilde Subdivision was recently completely reworked and is now producing over 100 gallons per minute more than it was producing in past years. This well not only supplies Idlewilde, but the whole Onalaska peninsula on FM 3186.

The water and gas company is now in the process of installing over 6000 feet of 10 inch water line and 2 inch natural gas line that will run from FM 3459 near the Onalaska High School to Highway 356 North, near the Magnolia Cemetery road. This water and natural gas line will tie two ends of the water system and gas system together, creating a redundancy in our system. If a major leak or pipe breakage were to occur in the system, this "loop" will make it possible for water and/or gas to still be available without interruption to most of our members.
