When any public water system in Texas reaches 85% of its capacity, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) requires that the water system implement a plan to improve system capacity. Onalaska Water & Gas Supply reached that 85% capacity in late 2005.
The water company hired a water supply engineering firm to asses the water system and create plans for expansion. The water company applied for and received approval for a $2,500,000 low interest loan from Rural Development to fund the expansion of your water system. Construction, which includes a new water tower near the Onalaska High School and three new wells, will start in August 2010.
In June 2010, the water tower was sandblasted, minor repairs done, and repainted. We're glad we only have to do this every 10-12 years, as it cost almost $90,000 to have this work done.
